Conference Dinner at the Corcoran Gallery of Art

We invite you to join us for a dinner at the Corcoran Gallery of Art. Located across from the South Lawn of the White House, the Corcoran’s spectacular Beaux-Arts building is the capital’s oldest art museum. Enjoy a reception on the Bridge overlooking the magnificent sky-lit Atrium and wander through striking exhibition galleries. Descend the Grand Staircase and quickly pause for the IADI Annual Conference group photo, then dine in the formal splendor of the oldest museum in the Nation's Capital. The Premier Exhibition for the night will be Richard Avedon: Portraits of Power, a compilation of 250 portraits from America’s pre-eminent portraitist and fashion photographer who photographed the faces of politics throughout his career. Sit back, relax, and get ready to experience the beauty of Washington, DC from the seat of a comfortable, climate-controlled tour bus. Listen as your professional tour guide shares colorful anecdotes, thoroughly researched historical information and humorous stories about quintessential Washingtonian sights such as the White House, Lincoln Memorial, National Mall area, Smithsonian Institutions, Embassy Row, Chinatown, the Capitol Building and many other points of interest. You will have the opportunity to step off the bus and take a closer look at sights such as the World War II Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, and Vietnam War Memorial during you four hour tour around town. The dress for the occasion will be casual attire.

Optional Excursion

Tour of Old Town Alexandria, VA and Tour of Mount Vernon

Depart from the FDIC Hotel in the morning and arrive at Mount Vernon, the beloved home of the first president of the United States and his wife, George and Martha Washington, from the time of their marriage in 1759 until General Washington's death in 1799. Your tour will include the Mansion house and more than a dozen out buildings including the kitchen, stables, and greenhouse. The group will dine at the Mount Vernon Inn Restaurant for lunch where the staff is attired in the charming style of the 18th century. Following lunch, send some time exploring the entire Forty-five acres of this spectacular estate or meandering through the museums and gift shops. Stroll four different gardens, hike the Forest Trail, and explore the George Washington Pioneer Farmer site, a four-acre working farm that includes a recreation of Washington's 16-sided treading barn.

Regroup in the afternoon for an optional 1-hour tour given by an experienced Mount Vernon tour guide. Meet the group at the boat launch and board your boat at 16:00 for a 1.5 hour sunset sail back to Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. Catch a fresh breeze on the outdoor decks or take in the sights while you relax in climate-controlled comfort on the beautiful interior decks of the Potomac River Cruise. While cruising, you'll enjoy a narrated tour of the Potomac River and its famous landmarks.

Arrive at the docks in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia between 17:30 and 18:00. Bus service will be provided back to the FDIC Hotel from Old Town Alexandria at the conclusion of the Mount Vernon trip. For those wishing to spend the evening in Old Town Alexandria enjoying one of the many restaurants for dinner or just taking in the sights, bus transportation to the FDIC Hotel will also be available later in the evening at 21:00. Old Town Alexandria is a quaint historic town just on the other side of the Potomac River from Washington, DC. Dating back to 1749, Alexandria’s riverfront was an important colonial port during the colonial, revolutionary and Civil War periods. Today it is a revitalized waterfront with cobblestone streets, colonial houses and churches, museums, shops and restaurants.
